My Mother was very positive about what I could do---even with some stuttering. She never did speaking tasks for me and I was expected to function like I was a fluent kid. She never had opportunity for formal education beyond grade school, yet she made sure her children had that opportunity and stuttering was not an obstacle. It was just something that happened and you moved on from their in a positive way.
