Hi :) When I began the 2 year therapy (it was 2 times a week for 45 minutes a time), my goal was just to make speech easier. I was so mentally exhausted from scanning ahead, making everyday and long-term decisions based on my stuttering, etc., that I just needed some relief. I think the 1 big thing (although it was definitely a mixture of many little things) that got my butt in gear was when I spoke in front of 100 of so people at an ASHA conference back in 1996. We were split into small groups and I was with Annie Bradberry (from the National Stuttering Association) among others. Our group came up with some ideas about something and I was chosen as the presenter to the whole audience! I got such a rush from speaking in front of so many people (stuttering and all) that I immediately gained confidence in my speaking. I attended several NSA conventions and speaking with hundreds of adults and teens who stuttered made a huge difference - to see that you could become anything you want and still stutter.
