Joseph and Moussa wrote papers for an earlier online conference that talk about some of the traditional kinds of treatment that were tried in their countries in the past. They are online at http://www.mnsu.edu/comdis/isad5/papers/moussa.html and http://www.mnsu.edu/comdis/isad5/papers/lukong.html Because of the work of these men, and many others in Africa, parents of children who stutter and adults who stutter are now getting good information about stuttering. Unfortunately, in Burkina Faso there are no speech therapists and in Cameroon I believe there is only one. This is true in many African nations. The support groups that people who stutter in these African nations are very important. A next step will be bringing more traditional treatments. The Fulbright Program has potential to help support people like Joseph and Moussa in their important work, and hopefully, help establish therapy programs in the future.
