Mr. Geddes , I am a SLP graduate student at the University of South Alabama, and I wanted you to know how inspiring your article is. It is so great to see a real push for the desensitization of stuttering among the public. It's mind-boggling to realize how difficult of a task this can be!! What is your opinion on why trying to promote acceptance of people who stutter can seem so hard? Do you think it simply comes down to the fact that insecure people want to pick on others to make themselves feel better? Or do you think it's caused by a person simply feeling uncomfortable during the silences produced by the blocks, hesitations, etc. of a person who stutters? I think this can be an important thing to consider when leading a "quest" to desensitize the public... try to get in their heads a little and determine why this is even an issue!! Do you agree?
