As the sister of a woman who stutters, I found your personal narrative very enlightening. My sister was never successful at learning a second language, though she chose a career in theater arts and is an accomplished stage theater director. Is it possible that her difficulty learning Spanish can be attributed to emotional factors related to her dysfluency? As I am in the field of second language teaching and working in a city in which 25% of the school population is Hispanic, this could be an important issue for some of our ELL students.
