Thanks for your comments. I couldn't agree with you more that stuttering therapy is a multidimensional problem. It goes beyond the speech disruptions that listeners hear. As you say, cancer is easier to treat than stuttering but oncologists know a lot more about the underlying causes for many different types of cancer and have clinically proven methods for treating them. Stuttering is much more elusive in terms of the factors that maintain the disorder and our affective, behavioral, and cognitive methods sometimes aren't direct enough to make a difference. That's a frustration for both the client and the clinician.
