Hi Russ! Again you have good things to say (in writing or in person). Wasn't there some research study separating a group who'd learned to manage or modify their stuttering and a group who "stuttered without struggling" and naive listeners who chose which group they felt most like/most comfortable with as listeners?? I recollect that the listeners chose those who stuttered "easy". I try to convey this concept to children even....it seems very hard to 'give up' the struggle. Perhaps that goes back to self-percetion &others' perceptions and our knee-jerk need to struggle to correct ourselves to 'fit in'. We MUST struggle..no pain,no gain type thinking. Then again, some have struggle behaviors that they are not aware of; do we make them aware for that is part of the others' perceptions that may get to them some day--or leave it alone? Thanks for a great article and I look forward to a great reply!
