Hi Cherika, Thanks for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. ..... It doesn't explain it in the actual paper itself, but that was an email I wrote to a teenage boy who was a client of a SLP friend of mine. Judy Kuster picked it up and, after some minor editing, it became an paper for this ISAD conference! So watch what you write - YOU may get picked on for a paper next year! Ha, ha, ha! ..... No, I most certainly was not alone in this journey. My friends in the NSA and in Toastmasters were my major cheerleaders in all this. I wish I could say that I had an SLP who was also a cheerleader, but in my therapy days in the 1950's - when dinosaurs roamed the earth - no one, absolutely NO ONE - really knew what to do. The stuttering iceberg wasn't even introduced until 1970 and that is probably the single greatest leap forward in stuttering therapy in the last 40 years. See my 2003 ISAD paper called "The Iceberg Analogy of Stuttering" at http://www.mnsu.edu/comdis/isad6/papers/hicks6.html for more details on this. ..... But now YOU know this and YOU can play a MAJOR role in facilitating life changing effects on your clients' lives. ..... I wish you the very best, Cherika. I hope our paths cross some day. ..... Russ
