Does this new perspective of having had fluency (and voice) disorders change how you teach your students; and if so what do you say / teach differently? These are great questions, Ross. I am more up-front about asking my clients what their stuttering feels like to them. Now that I have experienced it, it is easier for me to help them describe and analyze the sensation of stuttering. I include Once Upon a Brain Aneurysm as a reading we discuss neurogenic stuttering in my fluency Disorders class. I do not regularly work with people who have voice problems, but the necessity of doing voice exercises three times a day has taught me a few things about how to suggest regular practice strategies to clients.
