Thank you for sharing your story - it offers a unique perspective on stuttering. I gathered from your writing that you did not have a strong negative emotional reaction to your fluency breaks-you stated that you tended to laugh them off or explain your situation. I am in a stuttering course this semester where we do a lot of densensitization activities (e.g. stuttering while making phone calls, in face-to-face interactions, etc.) I know that desensitization can also be used as a treatment technique. Did you do these activities with your students or clients prior to your stroke? If so, how did your feelings differ during planned stuttering in desensitization activities vs. real neurogenic stuttering? Do you feel that desensitizing yourself with fake stuttering helped prepare you emotionally for neurogenic stuttering?
