Hi Diana. Thanks for reading and thanks for your question. I think it's really important that people who stutter share their stories, for they (we) are the ones who have lived the experience and can tell what has and has not been useful. I think that being a PWS certainly helps in being a teacher/clinician/advocate. I am certainly motivated and interested in stuttering, and I bring with me my history with numerous stories and ideas. However, there can also be a negative to that... I always have to be careful that I remember that MY experience is not THE stuttering experience... it is mine, and mine alone, and every PWS is very different. A typically fluent therapist who has worked with lots of people who stutter can be a better teacher/clinician/advocate that someone who stutters, just as the opposite can be true, as well. Being able to understand the human condition is the most important factor... being able to understand stuttering then follows naturally from that... Take care, and thanks! Joe
