Hi Natalie. Thank you for your comments and questions. Using the phone was a HUGE problem for me. When I became co-leader of the NSA chapter in Philadelphia, I would call many people weekly, and at least monthly, to see if they were coming, to get them motivated, to see if they needed anything special in the next meeting, but also to give me practice using the phone... calling other PWS on the phone was a great way for me to start being okay using the phone for the first time in my life. I don't think you need to disclose your stuttering on every call. Certainly, when I was at work, I would not comment on my stuttering with a customer unless it was particularly severe, and therefore there was a reason to mention it. So, on a normal call at work, I would not disclose. On many social calls, though, I would find a reason to talk about my stuttering: maybe I had an NSA meeting coming up, maybe I was going to the national convention, maybe something funny happened either in my stuttering therapy or while I was out "doing" therapy (voluntary stuttering, whatever)... so finding ways to sneak the fact that I stuttered into conversations in a meaningful way. I hoped that helps. Take care, Joe.
