Thank you for sharing your informative and heartwarming story. I wanted to commend you for your bravery in taking on your worst fears. Not too many people would have been brave enough to take that customer service job in your situation, so you really deserve a lot of credit for that. I too, am a second year Speech Language Pathology graduate student (there seem to be a number of us here). Reading your story has helped me to gain some very important insights that have helped me to better understand clients who stutter. What I have learned from other people who stutter, as well as yourself, is that attitude is very important. It seems that with many people who stutter and ‘come out of the closet,’ as you put it, there must be a change in attitude that takes place first. Can you please tell me what specifically prompted your change in attitude? Was it something meaningful that your therapist said or recommended? I would love to know how I could encourage my clients to change their attitudes and confront the situations that they routinely avoid. Thanks!
