Hi Jen. Thanks for the kind words and questions. You asked what is was that I liked about my relationship with my SLP. I think he got me excited about stuttering and about the idea of change. He really created an environment where I could learn about and explore my stuttering. I think he was able to meet me where I was and work on what I needed at the time, rather than having a cookbook kind of therapy. And he was able to be very supportive and was able to push me at the same time, which I think is hard for lots of SLPs... Hmmmm... advice... first, read my article, "Lost in the stuttering woods," which is also listed here at the conference. The most important thing was probably that real therapy doesn't happen in the therapy room. That is just the "meeting." Much of the actual work, especially as therapy progresss, is really up the client... and the clinician needs to figure out how best to support and motivate the client to do the work that is needed. Take care, Joe.
