Interesting questions! I did have speech therapy in grade school that was largely ineffective. Happily, I was in denial: Someone had told my parents that I would eventually outgrow stuttering, and I continued to believe this for many years. I finally concluded that I was not going to outgrow stuttering when I was in my mid-20s (I was a slow learner) and got some meaningful therapy at that point. My parents had mixed reactions to my stuttering but always encouraged me to set high goals for myself.
