My stuttering did not really become apparent until I was about 8 years old and was not much of a problem in grade school and junior high. I think the same principles of openness and acceptance are relevant for younger kids. Support activities for kids and parents are especially important at this age, and I would urge any kid to nag his parents mercilessly to take him/her to the NSA annual conference. Kids who stutter are doing some exciting things these days such as giving presentations about stuttering for their classmates.
