Judy, .................I had the master of shame attacking exercises, the founder of Rational Emotive Therapy, recently deceased Albert Ellis. He did not readily admit to there being two types of people: 1) those who could do the hard stuff off the starting block and 2) those who had to dip a toe in the water to know there were no sharks in it. .....................However, as I interpret his teachings is. First, understand that you you, or your client is as valuable as any one on this earth whether you stutter or not, ..................Second, Yes, it is hard to be not accepted by everyone you meet, but you can believe in yourself, whether you stutter or not..................Third, this is the hardest, do something, it does not have to be pseudo-voluntary-sttuttering or wearing "out of the main stream clothing" (something that really is *not* in. Albert Ellis encouraged me to outragous things. Of course, he did not know of Joseph Sheehan's voluntary pseudo-stuttering, but to me it was the best cure.........................As I age, I still have to do voluntary pseudo-stuttering, only a couple repetitions, but it really counter-acts my mind from the habit of being scared of stuttering.
