Thank you for a thoughtful question. I know of no research about the subject. Personally I believe outside stress in an adult can be, with training such as taught in REBT and CBT, minimized so as not to be internalized...........Once a stuttering adult starts to see neutral and even positive situations as stressful, he needs counseling provided by either an SLP or a psychologist to readjust his or her world view. Then stress can become eustress (google on this word and find some interesting ways how to do this).
