Gunars, I don't think I made myself clear. Stuttered Speech Syndrome would describe the disorder of stuttering by including all ABC's. Stuttering would be one of the behaviours (along with struggle, secondary and avoidance behaviours.)Chronic preservative stuttering would then refer to habitual dysfluency in someone who was no longer bothered by it. If this terminology was to be accepted we could then diagnose your dysfluency as being formerly connected with Stuttered Speech Syndrome but now it is simply chronic preservative stuttering. In other words REBT/CBT has cured your Stuttered Speech Syndrome and limited your current experience of dysfluency to some minor chronic preservative stuttering. To my mind this terminology is desperately needed so we can make your story (very similar to mine) more readily understood by SLPS, psychologists, teachers, parents and the general public. Have I made myself more clear? Are you ready to jump aboard the Stuttered Speech Syndrome "bandwaggon"?
