Ashley, I kept on going because I knew that when I was alone I could talk. There had to be a way to minimize the struggle. Until REBT I did not know the real key is in beliefs, attitude, or self-talk. I had seventeen different individuals or groups of individuals working with me. In Europe it was mainly talk slower, talk to the metronome, etc. in United States it was everything including the kitchen sink, but mainly what each therapist understood as Fluency Shaping, Van Riper’s Stuttering Modification, and Wendell Johnson’s adaptation, and various integration of these. Sometimes I would get better for a while, sometimes not.
