Hi Jaclyn: In a Phase III randomised controlled trial there is a group that receives the treatment and a group that does not. So that takes account of natural recovery. If there is a clinically and statistically significant difference between the two groups after treatment, then that shows an effect beyond natural recovery. Regards, Mark.
