Hello again, and thank you for your response. I am curious about the age limitations for children in the Lidcombe Program. At what age (or age range) would you expect that these "neural processing defecits" can be compensated for, and when would a child no longer be a good candidate for the program? Additionally, how would you approach therapy with a child stutterer that is right on the border of this age range? Additionally, of course I agree that it would be incompetent of a clinician to set a client up for failure. Perhaps I should rephrase and ask how a clinician could foster positive attitues about communication when the child is only praised for fluent speech? If a child does not recover from stuttering and he/she has only been praised during instances of fluency, he will certainly come to realize that there is something "wrong" with his speech and develop a negative attitude. Does Lidcombe have any way to address this, and could these affective and cognitive areas be areas for further research?
