Hi (don’t know your name), I can’t account for any reported improvements in those treatments. I can’t even account for reported improvements with the Lidcombe Program! We have published several studies exploring this issue but to now we can only theorise about how they might work. Is that what you meant by “account for improvements”? If what you meant is what do I think of the prospect of early stuttering being responsive to a range of intervention, I think that is inevitably going to be the case. Indeed, our group is currently working on syllable-timed speech as a treatment for preschoolers. The other question is about combining treatments. Well, that would be a good thing to do if combining two treatments is better than just having one. I can bring to mind a number of reasons why that might not be a clinically logical thing to do, though. And of course, it could result in a worse treatment, in which case you would not want to do it. Regards, Mark.
