Hi Sara; Stuttering can be a very isolating experience, especially for children. The often ignorant comments and reactions of school mates, teachers, parents and other adults can chip away at a child's self esteem. Advice from adults, even if well intentioned is often misguided and adds to the child's frustration and confusion. Every activity from school to play to work to friendship is a challenge for a stutterer. Many succeed remarkably well in life, but many settle for second and third best. The more inner and outer resources a child has the better the child can cope and fullfil his innate talents and abilities. To answer your question simply, yes I would have enjoyed school and other activities much more if I didn't stutter and more support would have made things that much easier.
