Hi Michael; My first goal was to learn as much as I could about stuttering and therapies. I read books and articles, got on listservs, talked to SLPs and other stutterers and attended conferences. I then set out to put into practise what I had learned. I tried an assortment of techniques and settled on those that worked for me. Exposing my stutter while using techniques and non-avoidance were central to my self therapy. This was a slow and difficult process and I would take two steps forward and then retreat one step back but I could feel that I was making recognizable progress. My current goal is to overcome the anxiety of doing radio and TV interviews. I have some very bad memories with the electronic media. Recently I was asked if I could do some interviews in the next couple of months on the subject of photography. I felt the old anxiety coarsing through my body as I thought of myself sitting in the recording studio talking for all to hear. A few years ago I would have passed on the interviews, but now I'm eager to see how I can manage it.
