I am in a fluency class at Western Carolina University. In addition, I am a student clinician working with a young man who has been stuttering for most of his life. My supervisor and myself are introducing him to three controls to help facilitate fluent speech. These controls include using a gentle onset on words that may cause stuttering, using a natural speaking voice, and speaking with an even rate. I have found that when he is aware and uses these controls, his fluency increases. I was wondering if you have ever used these controls to help increase fluent speech? If you have used them, do you think they work for you? Thank you for your time and your article. I enjoyed reading about your personal experience. Good job at coming out of the stuttering closet!!
