John, My name is Joe Novak and I'm a grad student in Kean University's SLP program. Your experience really resonates with me, as I too am someone who stutters, especially when you talk about the emotional part of the brain sabotaging the rational part of your brain - just so true! I find this especially relevant in the context of reading aloud and scanning for words that would be predicted to stutter on (a self-fulfilling prophesy of sorts!) I was interested in knowing which situations, other than TV interviews, are the greatest challenge to your fluency and if you approach them in any particular way (I know that, for me, the telephone is still one of the most intimidating situations -but I also know that to not try is, in a sense, to let the stutter win...) Thanks for sharing your experience and it's good to see that you have come to terms with this aspect of yourself. - Joe
