With many clients, I've begun to begin tx with the sounds around us (people, nature, etc) and our reactions in dif't situations to words and reactions (psychological, physiological, etc) to people to messages (again in dif't situations). This leads me/them to: "People will forget what you said; they will forget what you did; BUT they will never forget how you made them feel" (author unkown to me) and working from that vantage point: we are last in line...we bear the message but to send it in a vacuum is like the tree falling in the forest (or even less so). Therefore, we must send a message that is FELT (for one reason or another and one feeling or another). I use this with those who donot stutter but have fear of public speaking (ah....so, so similar to the stuttering 'profile') and it is extremely productive. You may think I'm taking the speaker/stutterer out of the message; on the contrary, it is how he says what he says that becomes prominent---not fear of certain words, sounds, people, etc AND begins to pull them out of metalinguistics and IN to "the moment". I'd like to know what you think of my brief summary of what I'm doing with those who are receptive. Thank you! I'd be interested in learning more of what you do, if you can link me to that 'more' you have!
