Dear Loreen, It’s a very interesting fact. What’s more, there are a number of actors who stutter in their real lives but not when they are slipping into or playing a role. How can we account for this? What is it that stops them from transferring such fluid speech patterns to their real life? More than likely, a psychological defense mechanism plays an important role here. For this very reason, serious therapy for those suffering with stuttering is not only intensive speech therapy, but in a way, a “re-wiring” of the sufferer’s personality. The process is time-consuming and not to be taken lightly.
