Dear Danielle, Thank you for your question! It’s very interesting! When a person records his/her own speech knowing that others will later listen to the recording, of course the quality of speech is worse than it would be otherwise. This is why we recommend the following to our clients: have the recorder on but in the background for 1 to 2 hours, try to forget about it being on and occasionally, out loud, talk about an event, retell a book and, have a conversation with an “imaginary friend”. Leave 10 – 15 minutes in between each speech. You can even leave the room and then come back in. Somewhere near the end of the first hour, we normally end up with speech free of stuttering. Neuro-imaging?
