Hi Dr. Reichel My name is Kate LeBoeuf and I am a 1st year graduate student here at the College of Saint in Albany, NY. I have very few experiences working with PWS but I enjoy my graduate class on this particular disorder. In the class we are leaning about the Synergistic Model for stuttering. The Synergistic Model, presented by Sister Bloom and Dr. Cooperman, explains in great detail that the normal speech production includes the interaction of physical, psychological, linguistic, and psychosocial components They understand that each person who stutters has developed there own individualized and learned attitudinal, and behavioral responses to this particular disorder I enjoyed your article very much. If you don’t mind, I have a few questions to ask you. How does the EI model fit with the Synergistic Model in the realm of attitudinal aspects of stuttering? How can I combine EI and the tests of the Locus of Control of Behavior Scale (Craig, Franklin, & Andrews), the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and the Overall Assessment of the Speaker’s Experience of Stuttering (OASES) (Yaruss and Quesal) in my evaluation? How do you explain to professionals in the field who believe in the Fluency Shaping Theory and believe that addressing feelings and attitudes is not important in therapy? What types of measurements/tests would you use when implementing EI on a fluency case? Thank you very much and I cannot wait to learn more about EI and use it with my fluency clients!
