Hi Joe, I'm glad that you enjoyed the article. I agree that your degree in psychology can be very beneficial in dealing with your clients. I also agree that knowledge acquired in other allied professions, such as psychology, psychobiology, psychophysiology, social sciences, behavioral sciences, etc., is also important in our work. Considering that the scope of practice in the field of speech-language pathology is rapidly growing, I believe that requiring every speech pathology major to also acquire a bachelor's in psychology would not be realistic. I suggest integrating relevant material from allied professions, especially neural sciences, into existing curricula, and creating continued education workshops for SLPs as they enter the work force.
