Hi Danielle, Thank you so much for your email. As I am rereading it, now in the Netherlands (where all computer commands are in Dutch), I am hearing in my mind a line from James Taylor’s song “Shower the people you love with love; Show them the way that you feel.” How is it that moms are so smart? She is right; You bet you can do anything you set your mind to. Sometimes, our own experiences can give us a little window into experiences of others. Sometimes, it is essential that we have struggled and succeeded in order to enable others to do the same. I am so thankful that you are pursuing a career in communication sciences and disorders; You have honored us by selecting our department for your professional preparation. I look forward to nurturing your professional development, knowing that you will go on to make a real and positive difference in the lives of people with communication disorders and in the world. You know what is important. The best we can do is to try, imperfectly as we might, always to be willing to learn and to grow, with and from others and experiences everyday. Now share the good word of encouragement with those who might need it. Good luck to you always. David Shapiro
