Hi Gunars, Thanks for your interest in my paper and in your intriguing questions. The tough minded/tender minded dichotomy is an interesting formulation of the human condition, but might attempt to simplify what is yet one of the most complex of mysteries yet known. We know that continua are useful for instruction but often fall short in defining reality. I agree with you that all kinds of people fall along the two end points. I’ll try to address your questions; forgive my brevity. I am in the Netherlands (where all computer commands are in Dutch) with some of the most amazing clinicians. They are asking me some very similar questions. Indeed I do address as many aspects of the communicator, communication, and the communication system as is possible. My methods address directly the A, B, and C (and more, as you suggested), whereby individualized programs are designed for and with each client and family, and main themes are collaboration, success, and fun. Before a lengthy reply, I would like to refer you to my book (Stuttering Intervention: A Collaborative Journey to Fluency Freedom, PRO-ED). In it, I have described my methods in detail, including how each treatment session is connected with assignments designed with the client for completion outside of the clinical setting. I also have addressed my approach to ABC. I would be happy to dialogue with you about my methods beyond what I have written if you wish. I would welcome the opportunity. David Shapiro
