Hi Kelly, Thanks for your interest in my paper and for your intriguing questions. I do know of some work being done with dogs in treatment. In fact, two of my students have done master’s papers on that topic. However, I am writing to you from the Netherlands where I am working with clinicians as a part of International Stuttering Awareness Day activities. I do not have access to those references here. I would be happy to respond to you if you were to contact me outside of the conference at a later time. Also, you might want to look at one of Alice Miller’s books, Banished Knowledge: Recovering from Childhood Injuries. She describes her construct of an enlightened witness, a person who exposes another person to the Rogerian concepts for the first time. I am not at all convinced that a pet, particularly a dog, cannot be an enlightened witness. I would be interested in your thoughts. Thanks again, feel welcome, and good luck. David Shapiro
