The points that you make are very practical and realistic. For instance, it is true that we all face struggles and that we all are faced with the decisions of doing what is right versus wrong and that we are all more similar than we are different. Although we are able to relate to others and we do our best to help others to succeed, it is not always possible for them to achieve success. This may be because of a negative attitude that the person has, maybe towards stuttering only and maybe because of life experiences. Some people simply don’t want to do better; they have no desire for change, no matter how beneficial that could be to their lives. My question to you is how you handle negativity from someone who despite your best efforts to praise and recognize the positive in them just doesn’t seem to be taking your efforts seriously. You don’t want to “give up” on someone, but at the same time you also can’t make them “want” success. How do go about changing this type of person’s mind set and what method would you use to approach therapy with them?
