Hi Ashley, Thank you for your thoughts. I’m glad you were moved by my paper and I am glad that you realize the essence of life – loving, being loved, and living fully. Perhaps that is the message underlying communication intervention and any other aspect of disciplined self-improvement. As a graduate student, you probably have begun to get a glimpse of the excitement that is our profession. I don’t know of anything more basic yet essential than communication. What more essential pursuit could there be than working to improve an individual’s communication and the communication world in which we all live? I hope you enjoy your career as thoroughly as I am enjoying mine, now as a speech-language pathologist for 31 years. Good luck and go make a real difference. David Shapiro
