I wanted to let you know that I enjoyed your article very much. I am currently a first year SLP graduate student, and I will definitely be using your three steps when it comes to my clients because I feel they will be very beneficial. I do have one question though. After you get done with your three steps (asking, listening, and shaping), do you take the information and figure out what area needs to be worked on first, or do you let your client pick what area he wants to work on first? Also, if you do let your client pick, what do you do when the area the client picks isn’t the most beneficial? Ex: Your client wants to work on being able to have a phone conversation with a friend right away, but you feel it is most important to teach him the techniques to monitor and control his stuttering. Once again, thanks for an enjoyable article!!!!
