Hamida, Thanks for your good question. I think that when a client is doing something simply to make the clinician or their parents or a spouse happy, they are not internally motivated and it will show up as a lack of real progress. They may do very well in the clinic setting, but never make any changes outside of therapy. When a client really takes ownership of their treatment, they are actively participating in the problem solving that is such an important part of therapy. This participation may vary anywhere from suggesting modifications to their treatment to being able and willing to talk about problems or successes they have experienced. Everyone shows motivation in their own way, so it is important to look for those signs in your clients. I hope this is helpful. Regards, Lynne
