Bridget, Oh, yes, I certainly do sometimes have parents disagree with what the child wants to accomplish (or not accomplish) in therapy. When that happens, this is a good opportunity for counseling with the parents, and for having them work with their child, so they can begin to understand the child's point of view, and find ways to support their child's goals. It may not be easy to do this, but it is important. If a child does not want to modify their speech to be more fluent, for example, I try to help parents understand that just because their child may not want to work on their fluency right now, it doesn't mean that they never will. Having the child and parents talk about the issues and concerns in the clinic setting can be a wonderful way to clear the air and find common ground among them. Thanks for your kind comments. Best wishes, Lynne
