Ida, Thanks for your comments. As to how I came to the realization that client's interests and concerns are primary, I'd say that it came slowly over the year (I wish I could say I knew this from day one!), by noticing that when clients weren't actively engaged in their treatment treatment didn't, they didn't really make changes, by reading books on counseling and treatment, and by attending some very good continuing education on the topic of fluency.
