Jenny, I appreciate your post. I agree that asking questions can be uncomfortable, especially at the beginning of your career. When you ask questions openly and honestly, people rarely are offended, and they generally appreciate your interest. I always keep a box of tissues on hand, since there are tears on occasion--and tears are really O.K. Some people have never been asked to share their fears or worries, and it is often a relief to them to be asked, and to be allowed to cry about whatever makes them sad or upset. When you, as the clinician, really believe that this is O.K., you won't find it so upsetting when it happens. Best wishes, Lynne
