I am currently studying Speech language pathology at Kean University in New Jersey. The term palilalia is rather new to me. From my understanding palilalia is a spontaneous, involuntary repetition of words or phrases and echolalia is an involuntary repetition on words spoken by another person. To me the terms seem very close, is the difference based on spontaneity? How would one tell the difference between palilalia and delayed echolalia if you were not present when the speaker said the original phrase?
