Thanks for your interest! My interest in both autism and stuttering came from my undergraduate studies at UCLA where I studied with Joseph Sheehan and Ivar Lovaas, two professors in the psychology dept. who had differing ideas about treatment of communication disorders. Both were inspiring mentors and their passions soon became mine. I became a special education teacher (working with children with autism) and also specialized in the treatment of stuttering as an SLP. My interest didn’t stop there, as I married a PWS, and much later gave birth to a child with autism. Funny how things work out! The book that Kathy mentioned is great. I would also recommend a book that by now is more than 10 years old, but I love it because it is full of practical ideas and written in a style that is quick and enjoyable reading. If you supplement the concepts with current research, you should have a solid background to begin. The book is, Teaching Children with Autism by Kathleen Quill.
