Hi Jillian, I think with each case it's important to look at the entire individual and patterns observed. Through observing and analyzing what you see in what contexts, and what communicative functions these behaviors serve (or don't serve), you can distinguish what is stuttering vs. an unrelated behavior. Be sure to look in various contexts and to base your reasoning on what we know from the literature.
