I recently joined a stuttering chat support group and found from many postings that a common challenge persons who stutter face was the ability to use skills effectively outside of the speech-therapy room. This article addresses this problem and how using drama therapy may help develop skills outside of the therapy room. I also found it very interesting that the clients involved in the study felt that drama therapy and using communication modalities other than voice more difficult that the voice component. This was surprising to me because in my experience many patients with aphasia or other language disorders rely heavily on the use of gestures and any other means of communication to supplement their voice. I did not realize persons who stutter would feel this was difficult, and found this information to be valuable. This article was an eye-opener for me and I really enjoyed reading it, as well as reading the feedback from the participants in the study.
