Hi Rick! I will try to share my speech therapy experience. At the beginning (at the age of 7) my stuttering was very mild and seldom. Ironically my speech tended to worsen after starting the speech therapy. At the age of 15 I began to stutter very severely. I have undergone a few therapies based on smooth prolong speech. I was able to read and talk quite fluently at the speech therapy clinics but this was artificial fluency and I was not able to maintain this fluency during normal conversation outside clinic. I think more suitable for me is the modification of stuttering. But such therapy is not available in Czech Republic, especially for adult stutterers. My speech varies very much. I am totally fluent when I am alone, with my family it is a little worse. With other people, however, I often get blocked in speech on almost every word. Maybe I have some kind of neurological switch which turns on and of my speech and I can influence this only a little. Regards, Jiri
