Hi Rick, Thanks for your question. As far as I am concern, I did not have speech therapy in the real modern sense of it when I was growing up. My parents took me to places where I had traditional therapy. This is actual traditional treatment that was at times very crude. This consisted of drinking traditional herbs and other concutions When I was an adult and started militating in self help in and out of Africa, I went through modern speech therapy that has helped and is still helping me a lot. I had a traditional chief in my village who was a stutter when I was growing. He used to communicate a lot and people respected him a lot not withstanding the fact that he was a stutterer. As a growing young person, I used to admire him a lot though I cannot say if this was because of his stutter or because of the high respectable position he held in our traditional society.
