Dr. Weiss- As a graduate student my focus is to earn Department of Public Instruction certification and work as an SLP in the school setting. My experiences and conversations with practicing SLPs in the school systems say that they are viewed as the “resident experts” in all areas of communication needs for the student population (whether they are comfortable with the title or not.) Therefore, I thought your comments about having a larger goal- improving communication, spoke volumes about what our job as SLPs is really all about. Do you find your knowledge and expertise in child language has influenced your interest or approach to other communication needs besides stuttering?
