Perfectionism and stuttering

I think that it's a very interesting aspect of stuttering to research. I used to think that perfectionism was a positive quality, but then I realized that nobody is always perfect and expecting too much of yourself is just going to make you feel bad about yourself and lower your self-esteem. I don't think that perfectionism is actually one of the causes of stuttering, but I definitely agree that it can change a person's attitudes and feeling about stuttering. I think that it makes sense that being a perfectionist can increase fears and avoidance behaviors of a person who stutters because of so much pressure to speak fluently and perfectly all the time that one would put on himself or herself. I also didn't know that perfectionism can actually be treated with cognitive behavioral therapy, although I've heard of this type of therapy before.
